Color & Convo: Why it was created

Color & Convo LLC emerged out of a deeply personal journey—one that was born from a place of desperation, struggle, and a quest for healing.

The story begins with my husband, Dwayne, a brave veteran who served our country, and who, like many others, returned home with the invisible scars of war. He was diagnosed with PTSD, and as anyone who lives with or loves someone with PTSD knows, it’s a battle that doesn’t end when the war/service does.

When we moved to Colorado, Dwayne’s PTSD symptoms were triggered in ways I hadn’t seen before. It was as if the move itself disturbed the delicate balance we had been trying to create. On top of that, our living situation only worsened things. We were constantly on edge, and Dwayne’s symptoms- hypervigilance, anxiety, and emotional numbing—were beginning to destroy the foundation of our marriage. It felt like we were fighting on two fronts: the challenges of his trauma and the crumbling of our relationship. We were this close to divorce. We were barely holding on.

As things became more difficult, I turned to the Universe for guidance, praying for a way to help us find peace and restore some balance in our lives.

That’s when I heard of and started researching color therapy. I had no idea what color therapy was at first, but as I dug deeper, the concept started to feel like something that could really help. The idea that color could influence our mood, our emotions, and even our physical health seemed hopeful.

But there was one big problem: we were living paycheck to paycheck, as Dwayne was fighting for his VA disability. We didn’t have much money to spare, and I was unsure how we could afford to try something that seemed so out of reach. I asked the Universe, once again, “If color therapy can really help us, please make a way for us to try it.”

And then, a few days later, something magical happened. The little girl who lived next door came over to visit us. She was wearing a pair of soft, pastel pink-colored glasses. I’ll never forget how those glasses caught my attention. There was something about them—something about the energy of that moment—that felt like a sign. I took a chance and asked if we could try on her glasses, and to our surprise, they worked!

We were amazed by how something as simple as wearing glasses could bring a sense of calm, clarity, and focus.

Dwayne, open to anything that might bring him peace, took our small amount of savings and ordered our first set of color therapy glasses.

When the glasses arrived, Dwayne tried on the indigo pair, and the transformation in his demeanor was instant. He put the glasses on, exhaled deeply, and said something I will never forget: “It’s quiet. For the first time in over a decade, it’s quiet.”

In that moment, something shifted—not just in Dwayne, but in both of us. We realized that we weren’t just experiencing a product; we were experiencing a potential healing tool. It wasn’t just about the glasses; it was about the realization that color could play a significant role in managing stress, anxiety, and the overwhelming symptoms of PTSD. It was about finding a way to reconnect, to communicate, and to heal.

We didn’t want to keep this discovery to ourselves. We wanted to share it with others—especially those who were struggling the way we had. So, we started Color & Convo—a space where color, creativity, and meaningful conversation could come together to help others heal. We began by sharing what we had learned with friends, family, and anyone who would listen, hoping to spread the word about how color therapy had transformed our lives.

However, there was one challenge that I couldn’t shake: How do we get the word out? How do we share this story with a wider audience? I felt like we had something valuable to offer, but I didn’t know where to start. In a moment of frustration, I made another plea to the Universe: “If I’m supposed to get the word out about Color & Convo, someone’s going to have to come to me and offer a way to do that.”, while I was on the front porch saying this to Dwayne the phone rang. It was Meral, the founder of Level Up CoWork and Creation Center, asking if we would like to come see their space, we did, and the rest as they say, is history.

We rented space, became part of Level Up, found people eager to co-work and create. We began to get our name out.

For me, Color & Convo is about so much more than color. It’s about healing, connection, and the power of shared stories. It’s about creating a safe space for people to come together and support one another, knowing that through conversation, creativity, and vulnerability, we can all grow and heal.

Each person has a story worth sharing. And when we honor those stories, when we embrace the discomfort and vulnerability that comes with being seen and heard, that’s when true healing begins.

Color & Convo is more than a business—it's a movement. It utilizes color to soothe the mind, enabling deep inner exploration and healing.

We're excited to discover where our conversations and colors will lead us next.
